Cultivate Memphis seeks to empower the future chefs, entrepreneurs, and home cooks of the Mid-south by providing job training, small business incubation services, and nutritional education and access to under-served communities.
Cultivate Memphis will provide free culinary job training for program participants at a professionally staffed and equipped kitchen facility. Participants will train with chefs and food entrepreneurs to prepare them for jobs in the culinary field. Training programs will include production techniques, restaurant operations, nutrition, and food safety certification. Cultivate Memphis will operate a full-service restaurant where program participants practice what they have learned while serving the public.
Cultivate Memphis will provide small business incubation services at low or no cost to prospective local entrepreneurs. Our fully equipped, staffed, and USDA certified commissary kitchen facility will be available for food production, canning, packaging, and storage. Small businesses services and consulting will be offered to help transform ideas into functional businesses. We will operate a seasonal farmers market that will allow local urban farmers to sell their products to the public.
Cultivate Memphis will provide free nutrition and lifestyle education for program participants. Healthy cooking techniques, pre / neonatal nutrition, and home gardening will be taught by chefs, nutritionists, and farmers. Classes will be offered at our kitchen facility and at local community centers, farms, and churches.
Cultivate Memphis will partner with other local and national organizations to expand access for under-served communities to high quality, locally grown foods while supporting sustainable family farms.
